Sarcoptic Mange in Dogs
Sarcoptic mange is also often called
canine scabies and is caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mange mite
which in turn is sometimes called the Itch Mite. Symptoms of
sarcoptic mange include severe itching, smell, damaged skin, sores
and hair loss, particularly on areas that tend to have less hair to
begin with such as ears, armpits, elbows, hocks, chest and belly. However, the dog scabies mite can live anywhere from 2 to 20 days off the dog in favorable conditions, so treatment of the environment is imperative to prevent re-infestation. Who is using what?
